I like your proposed panel! What is that, whiskey in there? A couple of hits of that might make the other instruments difficult to interpret, though!

That's weird. That's where I *got* the "special" switch I have...they had the list of them and had them available long before ACS did.

Very strange, but then...not atypical in my experience viz-a-viz vendors to the aviation community (especially experimental).

ETA: Here is the complete list of special switches which I received from Kestrel-Air back early last year:

Ok, so a little update. I ordered one of the two LED units from ACS. I wanted to test if the LEDs could be wired up properly. My goal was to have the switch icon/label illuminated at all times. Secondly, I wanted the positional indicator on the switch to light up when the switch was activated.

In my test case, I ordered a Red/Green dual LED switch from ACS.

I wired it up so that power was sent to the top icon and stays on regardless of switch position. This could of course also be run through a dimmer control to adjust brightness

I then wired up the lower positional indicator so that it would illuminated ONLY when the switch was ON.

So it looks like this should be easy to do in production with a small set of jumper cables in the back. As far as parts, I found the "Connectors" are not necessary as standard spade connectors can be put right onto the switch itself, the "connectors" are a clipon male/female style adapter and add over an inch of depth to the switches and un-necessary weight. As a result, you also dont need the Aveo Pins - as they are only needed with the connector. Lastly, you do indeed need 2 of the removal tools to be of any use.

Great work! That is exactly the functionality that I want in my switch illumination.

In your setup, is "down" on? If so, can you order the switch with "up" on?

The switch will work either way, in fact when I first wired it up, it was in the fashion you wanted. So the same switch body can be wired either way.

Cool. So switch operation is changeable, but what about the labels? Are they movable, or do they need to be ordered in different positions?

I'm envisioning the switch label and icon at the bottom in red or amber, and the green "active" light on top.

The switch cover can just be flipped the other way - they go on the covers can be installed in either direction.

Sorry, just re-read that. The covers are only printed in one way. If you flipped it so the "on" indicator was on top, the icons would be upside down. But you can switch which LED color is on top. But the label has to be on top.

Quick question...if you have some lights that are ON all the time, and others you have wired to only come on with the switch actuation, how are you handling the dimming?

Cheers,
Stein

I am going to use a solid state LED capable dimmer. It should have no problem driving the label icons - no different than a normal LED. I need to see what happens when the "on" indicator isn't always grounded (not illuminated) and the affect on dimming.
