Default antenna question

I have a antenna located in the right wingtip of a project plane I acquired. It is a single straight rod element about 16 or 17 inches long that is fiberglassed to the wingtip and the coax is soldered directly to it. Anybody have an idea what it is used for?

Default My marker beacon antenna ...

is similar to that, just a bit longer. It does not have a ground connection like a VOR antenna, just one conductor terminated on the element with a ring connector.

Yes there is not a ground attached, just the center conductor. It is fiberglassed over so I cant get an accurate length dimension as I can't see where it actually starts or ends. I was guessing marker beacon also but the plane is not currently so equipped.
