Default Voltage monitor

I have fitted the small low volt monitor from the VANS accessories catalog. It is supposed to flash for 30 seconds and then stay on steady if the buss voltage drops below 13v. So far, so good - it does. However, if I connect a charger, I measure the voltage at 14.2v - but the light is still on.

Any suggestions other than it is faulty?

If it's on the charger only with no battery connected then it's probably the AC component of the charger output.

Try with a good DC source to test it...

Sorry, didn't make myself clear.

The electrical system is in, including the battery. With just battery connected, works as advertised. If I connect a charger to the battery, buss voltage reads 14.2v but the warning light is still on.

Maybe I am worrying about nothing and it is the characteristics of the charger that is causing the apparant fault and it will be OK once it is on an alternator. Better start fitting the engine, then
