anti-seize/spark plug question

Am about ready to start it up. Not sure if I will get all the way to it today, but am hopeful. A very basic question...

Yesterday I drained preservative oil out of the bottom plugs. When I install the spark plugs (with some anti-seize on the plug threads), do the spark plug holes in the cylinders need to be clean and dry for the anti-seize to do its job, or is a little bit of residual oil on the threads OK?

Good for you.

I did not clean the plug threads, just used a bit of antiseize when I did my first plug installation prior to startup.

I have not had any issues with doing it that way.

Right or wrong, it worked for me.

I couldn't find a reference to cleaning the spark plug hole from oil, but did notice cleaning the wire connector end was required.

It's a long, good read.

Thanks for the replies. Gil-can always count on you to dig up manuals that I didn't know existed.

Although I'm using Unison spark plugs, rather than Champion, I was able to find the equivalent manual. http://unisonpubs.com/docs/F-1100-L-1710A.pdf

The Champion manual is still useful, however, b/c it has a lot of good pictures with description.

Probably a good move too!

I have been involved in a private informal survey of Beech owners and the folk at GAMI.

We have found Champions resistor values drift in time. Some very short amounts of time.

My suggestion is every 50 hours, clean and gap, and check resistance. The resistance should be around 1300-1500 ohms. Any at or close to 5K or more.....BIN THEM.

I have worked my way through about 24 champs now in 560 hours, we had a Tempest set and they are rock stable.

Your Maggies will appreciate it too I think!
