I saw that Lycoming has certified and non-certified Aircraft Engines. It appears they also have engines in a kit form too -?Engines in kit form, offered through an exclusive network of internationally recognized engine shops.? What is really the difference between the all of these as far as pricing? I?m assuming here that the lion shares of RV drivers are using Standard Aircraft type engine and not auto conversions?

I am trying to determine how much an engine is going to cost, and where and what to buy? -My proposed plane would be either a 7 or 9.

that is a wide range. they could range from factory new certified to salvage yard midtime to a guy who knows a guy roll the dice engines

certified cost > experimental > reputable shop overhaul > unassembled kit > friends has one in his hangar.

O-320 < O-360 < IO-360 < IO-390

So the numbers could run anywhere from $40K to $4K. Vans "cost to build" worksheet is a good place to get range estimates.
