Default Control Hook-up

I just got the wings on the previously flying RV-3 I bought. In looking at the
control surfaces like elevator the hindge bolts are fiber nuts versus castle nuts. Also is it not proper to bush-up with washers if needed to have the control push-rod ends griped so the movement is in the end bearing and not
just rotating around the bolt and sliding back and forth in the control forks
or alieron bellcrank. Please advise where most RV's require castle nuts, etc.

Thanks

If you are "clamping down" on the rod end bearings, as you should be, nylocs are fine. Castle nuts with cotter pins are only required when the bolt is subject to turning.

Yes, to the washer question.

Jim, IIRC, only 4 castellated nuts are required on the controls...one for each rudder cable to pedal attach and also at the rudder horn.

Your seatbelts and shoulder harnesses also get castellated nuts/cotter keys.

Best,

I have the ailerons and flaps in position on wing and need some advice.
(RV3) The Aileron outer hinge bracket has about 3/16 space on either side
of the hinge bearing when centered. Do I bush up to keep the hinge bearing
cenrtered in the bracket on the aileron or is it supposed to be to one side?
This will determine the relationship of the inboard brackett to the inboard
hinge bearing. Are both supposed to be centered?
On the flap control arm that slides onto the 1/4 inch bolt welded to the inboard flap rib. My plan is to put one washer on first, then slide on the flap
control rod then add washers so I can tighen the 1/4 inch nut to grip the rod
end bearing holding it firmly in place to allow only movement of the rod end
bearing. Please advise.
