Default flush duckwork lights

Good morning everyone,
I am wanting to mount my Duckwork lights flush with the leading edge skin, has anyone tried this before? I am thinking of enlarging the hole a little more, building a recessed shelf and trimming the plexiglass to fit. Do you think this would reduce the integrity of the LE too much? I would love to hear stories of those who have tried (if any) and what your results were.
thanks,
Brandon
