Default Deleting Items from a Kit

Oh heres a rookie question but one I haven't had to deal with yet. I am about to order a FWF kit but need to delete some items, How do you physically delete the items when placing your order with vans? Does it have to be done over the phone or is it as simple as annotating the deleted items in the Notes section and then getting reimbursed for those said items?

I would call vans but it makes things challenging when your 12 hours ahead.

Either way... Van's likes order info in writing, detail your list of deletions, email it in via scan or fax it and ask for a call back for the total dollar amount of the revised order. They will want the 25% deposit for sure.

Does this go for FWF Kits as well since they don't have a designated Order Form?

Yes, VANS has been very good (in my experience) about tailoring a kit order to exactly what you want. You can either post a list of exactly which components you want, or start with a pre-listed kit and delete/add items to suit your build. Just notate them in the notes section, they will adjust the parts list and price accordingly. I've tested their patience quite a bit already with some of the modifications on my bird, and they have met the challenge every time.

Default Vans is used to custom order lists ....

I did exactly that with the finish kit. I called them on the phone, we walked thru the entire order (with a TON of deletions), and then they emailed me the modified list for my confirmation before triggering the order. No trouble at all.

eMail is probably the best way to finalise exactly what stays in and what is removed - Vans will send a "packing list" of the kit. The initial order of course standard paperwork order form(s) & deposit.

With the standard kits (maybe not FF?) you will not be credited the value of the item, but only ~75% of it - fair enough since the kit price is at a discount to the sum of its parts. However, it can then be worth scanning the deletions and seeing if you just might ever need that part, since you are getting it at a price you will not be able to get in future

Default I just did this with both finish and fwf

Actually, started the process about a month ago to get the kits before the price increase.

I was told that my deletions to the finish kit were so significant (cowl, canopy, fairings) that they made it no longer a kit, just a parts order. So I ended up paying current non-kit price for what I did get there - wheels/brakes, motor mount, associated hw. Rather than a reduction from the bundle, it was just a total of the parts I did buy.

The fwf is apparently not a kit to begin with, just a bunch of parts, but my exclusions there ended up being 100% reductions in the parts costs for everything I took out.

To do all this, I asked for the pick lists for each bundle and returned those lists with X's on the lines I didn't want. Van's was very helpful and turned things around quickly based on the written request details.

David, I just placed and inventoried my FWF kit.

I have the Excel spreadsheet on this PC with all the items listed for a -7 IO360-M1B on my hard disk right now.

It itemizes my deletions and if you send me an email I can forward it to you with the reasons I deleted them from the kit.

I have an ECi engine so the FWF kit for the M1B IS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT!

Shoot me an email and I would be glad to sent the file to you!

CJ
