Default VCF Fly In La Baule, France

Van?s Club France Fly In La Baule 2006.

This last weekend we had our third and so far most successful VCF Fly In.

The weather was perfect which was some blessing. The weather so far this year in Europe has been the wettest and coldest since records began.

We had about 40 RVs from all over Europe. The countries from which RVs came were France, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and the usual large contingent from the UK. It was probably the first time outside of North America that there were 7 RV8s present at one time at a Fly In.

The standard of construction and finish on the new RVs is very high and can easily compete with the best at Oshkosh. It was very difficult for the judges to decide on a winner.

However the cup was eventually given to Philip Soper of the UK for his RV8 G-ZAAZ. Close runners up were Francis and Jacques Carton RV8 F-PJFC and the Swiss Yvar Vonlanthem RV7 HB-YLM. In my opinion the RV9A from the UK belonging to Richard Garforth G-RVIX should also have been included as a champion.

The prize for the longest flight to the Fly In was given to Mats Janssen RV6 SE-XDM who came from north of Stockholm.

I managed the prize for the RV with the most hours (706 hours) RV6A F-PRVM previously N542BW.

The evening banquet was attended by 130 pilots crew and friends. Stan Hodgkins gave a short talk on his recent Spin Testing that was required by the UK PFA to allow the RV8 to be cleared for aerobatics in the UK.

Much thanks must go to Jean Michel Falloux, Francis Brakl, Lucien Rochet and their wives, family and friends for organizing the Fly In and doing all the work to make the excellent evening meal such a success. Thanks should go to the Chef d?Aerodrome and his very helpful staff and traffic controllers who ensured a safe and excellent fly in at La Baule.

Also thanks should go to Van?s Aircraft and Avery Tools who again supported our fly in by donating many door prizes and catalogs.
