Piano hinge, what is the difference.

I am having a fuzzy day and can?t remember which piano hinge wire is which. I have one gold coloured and one steel looking lengths of wire. Which one should I be using for the flaps? I think it?s the steel looking one, but thought I would ask?.

I saw on the Van's Aircraft Website opening page a listing for "CONSTRUCTION FAQ's" and in there is a .pdf that clarifies hinges and hinge pins. I didn't see the gold vs non-gold but from Van's:

"... the only hinge pins that should NOT be used are the aluminum ones that the builder is instructed to remove from the "HINGE PIANO 1/8".... it seems that all of the other hinges and hinge pins supplied by Van's are a steel alloy (sometimes gold/sometimes not) and they are all suitable for use in any application in the airplane...."
