Default Fuel Guages & VM1000C

Bought the VM1000C engine monitoring system @ SnF -- SWEET unit.Does lots of things.
Question --I would like to keep my fuel guages (as backup - just in case).
Both would connect to the float connection.
The fuel guages have one wire from the float sensor to the guages.
The VM1000C requires two wires, uses the same wire from the float to the unit but also require a ground from sensor mounting plate to the unit.
Can I run both (guages & vm1000c) off the same "hot" sensor wire -- or will they interfere with each other ???
Thanks
Bob
