Default Weak Woodward Governor

We are an inspection away from first flight in O360-A1D powered 6 with a CS Hartzell prop. The prop and engine came as a pair from a 180 hp Piper Arrow. Prop went to the prop shop, governor was bench tested and had seals replaced about 5 years ago. The governor does not seem very aggressive in cycling the prop although it does draw the rpm down/MP up. If the oil temps get to 200 degrees (which happens doing ground runs) the prop control gets very stiff and it does not cycle very well at all (will only drop 300 to 400 rpm and takes a while to do it).

Does anyone have any ideas? Any recommendations on someone to take a look at the governor who is reasonable with a quick turnaround time (this thing is ready to fly!)

Thanks,

DA Swede, AKA Clearprop

Default depends...

Most prop shops can do this test - pick one close & ring 'em up. Be sure to tell 'em you do not need any paperwork (unless you DO) so the final tab stays reasonable.

If you want a recommendation, contact Tiffin (Ohio) Aire, Propeller division, at 800.553.PROP

Carry on!
Mark

Default Searching for different reasonable governor

Did some trouble shooting. It is the governor. For whatever reason it tightens up as soon as the oil gets over 180. I am now in search of a reasonable replacement for a quick turn because this thing is ready to fly. Will be calling prop shops tomorrow.
