RS beeper box

I am interested in buying a beeper box instead of using a timer to preheat my engine this winter. It would be great to just make a phone call and turn off or on the engine heater. I have looked at the RS beeper box sold by Judith mountain and Aerotherm. They look great but are alittle pricey. I would really appreciate any information on beeper boxes and which might be the best and how well they work. Thanks alot!
