Default P-Mag 10:1 comp pistons timing

My Slicks are due for the 500hour inspection and I'm thinking of getting a P-mag.

I've got 10:1 CR pistons and fixed pictch prop so I retarded the timing to 20 degrees BTDC to give a little more detonation protection.

Can the P-mag be set to fire that late? From what I understand, the latest it will ever fire is 25 degrees BTDC.

Welcome to the VAF!

Yes, the P-mags can be programmed to do what you want.

You can plug each ignition into your computer, one at a time, using the EICAD program available on the Emag site, and set the ?B? curve to anything you want.

Of course, using our EICommander makes setting up the P-mags a lot easier.

Does the mag have to be on the aircraft to do this? Can I do it on my kitchen bench?

No, it does not need to be on the plane. However, it will need power which can be provided by a 9 volt battery.
