Default Determining Vx & Vy

Im still in Phase 1 and I'd like to accurately determine my Vx and Vy. What is the best procedure to accomplish this. I have an idea of my Vy just by testing different climb speeds and noting max rate of climb (max Vertical speed). Is this indeed the best way to accomplish this task? And Vx (best angle of climb) - what am I looking for here? For Vx, how much above Vfo and Vf1 - I assume I do this with partial flaps (short field t/o) and without flaps?

Mark,

Do a search for "bootstrap" flight test and read the series by Dr. John Lowry that was posted on AvWeb. If you have a fixed pitch prop, the sawtooth technique is very straightforward for deriving the data you're looking for.

You might also want to take a look at Kevin Horton's website--lots of extremely helpful information there.

If you PM me, I can provide you with a spreadsheet that produces graphic performance charts in addition to tabular data.
