Default Crack on front of starter?

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater

I just hung my engine and it looks like my starter has a crack on the front, should I replace it now or give it a few hours and see what happens.

Thanks,
Andy

I don't do f**ebook so can't see it. Suggest calling the manufacturer.

I get a message that the content is unavailable. However, if it is the lightweight starter and there is already a visible crack in the bell housing then I would contact Skytec to arrange a replacement.

Lightweight starters often use the housing as an expendable piece to prevent damage to more expensive things in case of kickback on start. Check wiht the manufacturer.

Are you sure it's not line in the casting to help you find TDC?

I wish I could get the pic posted, but the my aircard is too slow. I think it is the standard, not the lightweight starter. The crack is on the most forward casting where the bendix spindle terminates on the front. The crack extends from the spindle bushing 1/4 inch down the forward face. Unfortunately it's not the casting line that is on the bottom of the starter casting.
Thanks,
Andy
