Default Need tap size for elevator rod end bearing

Hope someone can help me here. I have an elevator rod end bearing (MD3614M) that will not start in the K1000-8 nutplate. Not wanting the strip the threads I figured I would just buy a tap and "help" it get started. I know the size tap would be 3/8" but I don't know the thread count. Any help is appreciated.

Or, get a 3/8 - 24 bolt, ease the end thread and run it in, then install the bearing.
