Single seat home-builts do NOT require the "passenger warning" placard.
They DO require the 2" Experimental placard.
However, if the design is over 30 years old such as in the RV-3 and RV-4, the Experimental placard may be omitted if you use an "X" within the "N" number as in, NX123TX. See FAR part 45.22(b).
In this instance, the "X" does not show up in any paperwork or anywhere but on the aircraft itself.
