Default Lights?

Hey guys-

Getting ready to swap out my lights with HID's and today when I pulled the existing lamps out with H3 bulbs, I can find no ground wires? There is only one wire running to the bulb..

Is this normal? I have no idea what's going on here and AFAIK they were working fine when I pulled them..

Anyone?

Jeff

My guess is that the bulb case somewhere made contact with the aircraft frame for grounding.

Typically lights are grounded through the housing mounted to the airframe.

Ok, thanks guys..

While I'm here, since I didn't build this thing, can you guys tell me what the fasteners are called that are riveted to a structure and have a nut built in. What are these called?

Default Nut Plates

Nut Plates are what you're looking for. Van's, Spruce, and all the other aviation supply houses have them.

Any trouble shooting tips if I cannot "find" the ground for one of the lights?

I took a voltmeter tonight and turned on the lights. I was able to read ~12.6V through the landing light, however, through the taxi light, I was unable to find a ground for it.

Any thoughts?
