(North American friends: Lake Eyre is a dry salt bed for about 29 out of every 30 years, fed by a river system which would drain nearly 20% of mainland Australia if it ever rained there, which it usually doesn't. You can keep an eye on the status of Lake Eyre here Lake Eyre Yacht Club

We have had a heap of rain inland over the past few months and plenty of flooding. The farmers should be growing rice!

September / October is usually pretty windy on the east coast, but unsure about that far in.

Sorry, the photo is not Lake Eyre, but central NSW in "flood" (Also flying something slower then the RV!)

It's funny: I said it's dry for 29 out of 30 years, but for the last ten years it's flooded four times.

Each flood takes over a year to dry out, so it's been at least ankle-deep in parts for a long time now.

Best time of year would be near winter, when it isn't 48 degC. So I'd pick early spring rather than late spring.
