Default What antenna for panel mounted 396?

I searched the archives but could not find this information. I intend to mount my garmin 396 in an airgizmo mount on the panel of my 8A. It seems clear that I will have to remove the antenna connected to the unit. What do I use for an antenna?

Garmin sells a remote antenna for about $75 which seems kinda pricey. I know there are cheaper remote antenna available and I would like to save a few bucks, but not at the expense of a reduction in performance.

I plan to mount the GRT gps and 396 antennas on a shelf under the cowl.

Any thoughts?

The 396 comes with a suction cup remote antenna. You just take the suction cup mount off and mount the antenna where you want it.
