Default High Copper in Oil Sample

I used Philips 66 20W50 for the first four years and 312 hours in my O-360 RV6. I then changed to Aeroshell 15W50 (can't remember why) and over the next two years and 100 hours (three oil changes) the oil analysis indicated that my Copper levels had jumped 2X-3X (6ppm to 18ppm) and increasing. I was receiving "abnormal - caution" notes from the analysis lab. The notes/recommendations section indicated that high copper was possibly due to an additive in the Aeroshell. I changed back to the Phillips 20W50, flew another 37 hours and resampled. All values dropped back to normal (Cu at 5 ppm).

Just an FYI for anyone else facing a similar concern.

Duane

IIRC, covered here before. A "search" on this forum should reveal a prior thread with more details on this subject.

Here's one: http://www.vansairforce.com/communit...ht=high+copper

Hope this helps.
