tip up canopy repair

i have a tip up canopy that the previous owner put stick on sun shields on the top. it was left in the sun and they baked into plexiglass causing it to crack. can the bad areas be cut out and repaired with a sheet of smoked plexi? any suggestions would be helpful...thanks

I don't think you want to do that! There's quite a bit of air load on the canopy in flight and plexiglas splices are not very good structurally. You should replace the canopy.

If the canopy itself is cracked, I agree it needs to be replaced. If the stick on shades has caused the plexiglass to craze, that might be repaired with those micro sanding repair kit
