Default Stewart- Warner fuel senders

I'm installing new fuels senders from Vans on my 1999 6A. The originals, by some other vendor, didn't attach like the factory Stewart-Warner senders. The plans I have don't show how they are supposed to connect to the fuel tank access covers. I'm guessing a button head rivet or maybe a nut plate. Who can tell me the correct way to attach them?
