Default PPG paint codes

Greetings
My RV-8 will be painted in a "P-51" style paint job. Using the Air Force T.O. 1-1-8 calls for Insignia Blue , Red and White on the Stars and Bars. I am looking for PPG codes that match these or a way to reference them. The Federal standard codes i am finding are FS 35044 for Insignia blue. FS 31136 for insignia red. I can not seem to find a code for insignia white.

Thanks in advance Jerry

I found two FS numbers for Insignia White:

FS 37875
FS 37925

here:

http://www.fed-std-595.com/FS-595-Paint-Spec.html

I also found this on a Warbird forum:

Insignia Red FS # 31136, PPG DCC (Concept) # 74720
Insignia Blue FS # 35044, PPG DCC (Concept) # 16017
Insignia White FS # 37880 (?), PPG DCC (Concept) # 98043

HTH a bit...

It looks like these guys say it's the FS 37875 one (FS 17875 is the same in gloss), and reference a MIL-spec. They also give a lot of names associated with various colors -

http://www.milspeccoating.com/Federa...olors-s/41.htm

Insignia White, ANA 511 (Insignia white 17875 matches color of MIL-E-1115, formula 30)

That color is also the modern NATO white - from the Fed Std 595 document

International Standardization Agreement: Several colors listed in this standard are
the subject of international standardization agreement, MAS Army 440, 7 December
1987, NATO STANAG 2321, Edition 4. When there is a change, revision, or
cancellation of this standard which will affect or violate the international agreement
concerned, the preparing activity will take appropriate reconciliatory action through
international standardization channels including departmental standardization office, if
required. The following colors are covered by the above agreement:
i. Silver/ aluminum 17178
ii. Brown 30117 or 30140
iii. Red 31136
iv. Light Red 31158
v. Yellow 33538
vi. Light Green 34558 or 34449
vii. Dark Green 34108
viii. Light Blue 35109
ix. Gray 26231
x. Black 37038
xi. Violet 37100
xii. White 37875

You can buy certified color sample chips here quite cheaply stright from the govt. ($5 each)-

http://apps.fas.gsa.gov/pub/fedspecs...5CStandard.cfm

But last time I tried they did not have a lot in stock.

You won the battle when you said PPG.

While my plane is mostly in Acryglo, I am a big believer in PPG (x10). Your next task is to find a good PPG jobber shop to buy your paint. PPG pulled out ahead of the pack in the last 5 years and they demand a better level of service from their distributors. I say go shake hands with the local guys that service GTO's, Harleys, high end restauraunts and the occasional airplane builder. They are the guys that will help you figure out where you are wrong. I like paint shop guys. They like what they do.
