Default engine data plate material

I searched, but did not find a thread or a FARS/AC answer to this one:

Can I make my engine data plate from Aluminum?

The mechanical marking punch device I have doesn't do well in stainless.

I believe it has to be fireproof, and alum. won't pass.

There is a FAA AC out there on marking/labelling parts.

Type up the info you want on the data plate and take it to a trophy shop for professional engraving... cost me about $15. Heck, I can mail you a small piece of stainless if you need it.
