Default Pylon Race School?

I received this e-mail from Reno Sport Racer Lee Behel about the Pylon Race School in June. I recognize there is a very wide range of experience, skills, desires, motivations etc. so even though this is not for everyone, those that are a good fit for the opportunity need to know about it. I'm thinkin' Bob Mills and that Smokin' F-16 pilot from Alabama, and others like them. Good luck guys, you know who you are.

Hi Bob,

I have been thinking of you as I make planes for this year's AirVenture Cup
race. It is great to see how your group has grown over the years.

I thought that I would let you know that this year the Sport Class at Reno
has made some changes which might make participation more attractive to
members of SARL. We have gotten permission from RARA to put up to 9 racers
in each heat (up from 8). In addition to this, we have changed our pairings
formula so that any person who enters is guaranteed an opportunity to race.

In the past, there were some entrants with a slow qualifying time who wound
up sitting out the whole week. We have made it a priority to change that
for this year.

RARA has not allowed us to split off 4 cyl engines or fixed gear airplanes
into a different class (in fact they have forced us to combine Sport and
Super Sport this year), but it isn't all bad. By having only a handful of
airplanes in the running to actually win the race overall, it leaves the
rest of us free to concentrate on our own individual match races or to
compete for the "Fastest in Type" trophies. (The Class awards these and they
are beautifully painted propeller blade--much nicer trophies than what RARA
gives out.)

I am telling you in the hope that you will pass the word to your group and
that some will come out and race with us. Even if SARL flyers are unsure
about racing in September, they are welcome to join us in June for Pylon
Race School. It is a fun event that requires only basic formation skills.
Each year we get several people who come for the training with no intent of
actually racing in September.

In any case, I look forward to seeing you and the rest of the SARL group
again this year in Dayton.

Cheers,

Lee Behel

Mark's right Bob...you should join us at PRS. So far 2 SARL Rockets, 1 SARL Super Six, a turbo rotary Six, and an IO-360 8 are signing up for the seminar.

Sport Class Air Racing is seeking to attract more racers, so this is a great opportunity for those interested and so inclined.

Deadline for submission of PRS forms to the Reno Air Race Association (RARA) is May 20th. I'll post the link to their site when I'm back home and on the computer. If you have any questions, shoot me an e-mail or PM, and I'll get you an answer...or find someone who can.

Pretty exciting opportunity!!!

Cheers,
Bob
