Default Is Carb Heat Hose Supposed to Cover Slit on Heat Muff Pipe?

All,

On the Van's carb heat muff (I know I may want to replace it in the future, but this is what i have for now), is the heat hose supposed to cover the "slit" or not? The end of the muff is open to draw air, but I wonder if the slit is also there to draw air (and should not be covered by the scat hose)?

See the slit on the attached.

Thanks,
Scott

Looking at my install pics from years ago.............it does not cover the slit. And it makes sense, since the exhaust pipe takes half the open area.

I know that the carb heat requires all of the air it can get from the scat tube, as well as open flange on the filter box....that it connects too.

The installation instructions for the Carb Heat Muff call the "slit" a BYPASS SLOT. It also states to be "careful NOT to cover the bypass slot."

You really should consider one of these...

If you ever really get carb ice, you'll wish you had one installed. Van's little do-hickey really won't do much for you.
