Default Fuel Pump Operation

Hello All,

Can someone provide me with the recommended standard for operation of the electric boost pump in an IO-360 RV7? Fuel Injection is Silverhawk, with an Airflow Performance boost pump.

I am encountering differences of opinion from various instructors on how and when the boost pump should be used when operating a Fuel Injected aircraft.

Best regards,
Andrew Butler,

Default whenever engine loss would be highly inconvenient...

in flight - use it whenever engine loss would be highly inconvenient or fuel pressure from the engine driven pump might be low... i use it on take off, landing, and when switching tanks.

On the ground use is different. Cold start I use it for 5 seconds to prime the engine. On hot start I use it to purge the system (30 - 45 seconds) with the bypass valve, but it is off for the start in both cases.

Why when switching tanks? I've always wondered this.
