12v brake bleeder

Thought I would share this technique for bleeding brakes that worked very well for me. After numerous frustrating and messy episodes of trying to get air bubbles out of brake lines, I tried a 12V fuel pump I had left over from my RC model airplane days; it worked great. Here is a link to a photo:

Once you get it set up, the pump charges the left or right brake system in about 15 seconds with no air bubbles. You do need to provide a way to allow excess fluid to escape, here is how we do that: http://www.pilotvids.com/image/brake_bleeder_overflow

Be sure to buy some medium or large size silicone fuel tubing as well from the hobby store, and be careful to make sure the brake bleeder valve is open before energizing the pump, as the pump is strong enough to blow the tubing off if it is not, and then you will have a mess (wonder how I know that?) You might even want to wrap a little fine safety wire around the the outuput hose at the collar on the RC pump to make sure the tubing stays put. Then just hold the output tubing in place on the open bleeder valve while you hit the switch, and watch as your overflow container starts to fill in about 15 seconds. Once the overflow hose shows brake fluid only with no air, shut off the pump and close the bleeder, you are done with that side. Repeat on the other side and go fly.
