Default ? tighten shuttle type switch guards?

I bought a couple of the shuttle type switch guards. Beautiful little things, but I can't figure out how in the world to make the tightening ring tight. It is recessed down into the guard so far that my 9/16 open end can't get at it, and my 9/16 socket is to fat to fit.

Paul, or anyone else, how did you make your switches tight?

The "nuts" on my switches are just round rings with serated edges, so what I did was use a long skinny pair of needle-nosed pliers to hold them striaght on and turn them, in combination with a little turning of the switch for that final torque. It's a pain, but none of them have come loose. Oh...holding the nut with those long needle-nosed pliers will probably produce at least one blood blister per switch when you pinch your finger!

Another method is to adjust the "ring" where you want it and tighten the jam nut behind the panel with an open end wrench.

Default Another answer!

I found a better way than the needle nose plier, blood blister method.

I picked up a long thin walled 9/16 socket. It fits down inside the guard and fits the hex sided locking ring perfectly. Cost 4 bucks at a local tool shop!
