Rod end bearing lock nut torque

I have installed the rod end bearings on the rudder and elevators for my -7. One thing that isn't obvious to me is how to properly torque the lock nut. Whats the trick?

Use the torque value for a "thin nut" like the AN320, Table 7-1, page 7-9 in AC 43.13.

Or do you mean how do you do it?

I am trying to figure out how to measure the torque on a nut like this that I can't get a socket on. Can I use a crowfoot wrench on a torque wrench and calculate the difference in torque I need to shoot for based off of the extension?

Sure can torque with a crowfoot. Use the formulas in the circular to compute the torque if not offset at 90 degrees. If you can keep your crowfoot directly perpendicular to the torque wrench, than no adjustments are required.

Use a small open end wrench on the flat of the lollipop (rod end) to hold it in position. This can be a 4-hand job or a 2-hand and a vise job.
