Default RV6,7,9 Slider Canopy Question

I'm starting to fit the canopy frame to my RV6 and have been studying all the various notes and hints (RVator, Jim Cone, Frank Justice etc.). Jim Cone recommends cutting off the tube that sticks above the sliding canopy frame (the stub where the handle goes thru). Is there any consensus out there on the pro's and con's of this approach?
