RV-6 Jack

Does anyone know of a good, simple method to jack-up an RV6 other than using those cumbersome wings jacks?

I've unsuccessfully tried two different car floor jacks. One recommended by a RV friend who hooks a hose clamp on the axel as an attachment to snag his auto-type floor jack. Seemed like a great idea to me, but the hose clamp keeps slipping on my plane as it can't hold the weight of the plane.

Vans used to sell an attachment for the floor jack, but no longer does....

I use the hose clamp on mine for the past 13-years. There is a small amount of fiberglass under my hose clamp and slipping is not an issue for me.

I have a set of the attachment for a floor jack that Van use to sale. It is nothing but an ANGLE and muffler clamp. I used it once and the angle bent. The angle and muffler clamp bolt on to the landing gear to act as a jack point.

If you were in SoCAL, I would let you try the old Van's Angle and muffler clamp jack point. You could make your own out of a muffler clamp and an old piece of angle. I my memory is correct, the angle was 2" X 2" and 1/8". I will take a look later today when I am at my hangar.

Avery has a good RV jack system. I've used it on both my -6
and my -8A.

I've used both systems on the Avery page (561-1 and 4665) on my RV-6. Both worked well. I built a homemade version of 4665 and like it because it is easy to spin the tire while tightening the axle nut without resorting to reworked nuts required by 561-1. A small U-bolt permanently attached to the axle prevents the cable of the handy jack from slipping up the gear leg.

As stated earlier, the hose clamps have worked for 13-years for me and they are cheap. IF they did not work, I would do what Tony has done.

I made this for my RV-12, but would work for any plane with a smooth section underneath. Jack is rated for 2000#, so no problem. Takes very little effort to raise a plane.
