Engine storage? Hanging from it's lift point.

Does anyone know if hanging the engine
from it's lifting ring for an extended period
ie. 6 mo. Is a bad idea? Have it currently hanging
from a hydrolic engine lift.

I lifted my engine the other day to look at the underside for something and have left it hanging, nice and convenient to move around. Last night I wondered about the same thing. I will be curious to see what other have to say.

Doing engine changes with only one lift forced me to hang one engine from the ceiling while components and baffling was swapped over. I also ty-rapped a piece of angle on the ram of the lift to "lock it" in case the pressure bled off and keep it from sagging. The off engine hung for months until it sold. Setting an engine down on a old tire or two is pretty common although I really don't like to.

My concerns (if need be) were that all the weight
transfered to one point could put some strange
stress's on the block. (for an extended period) May have to contact Lycoming
and see what they say.

I also had a different way that my AP liked.
I have the dynafocal mounted and had then
mounted it to a 3/4" peice of plywood with some 1"
stifnerners mounted in back. I then put the hole deal
on a rotational engine mount I bought at harbor freight.
I could then rotate the engine to get oil on the cam and in the
and around the top of the engine. It's going to sit for a while.
Until my plane is built. 9a. The AP seemed to like the idea.
