Default Question for engine rebuilders

I am going to look at a rebuilt O320 that had chrome cylinders AND chrome rings installed.............. The engine was removed from service at the flight school.

Outside of the fact that the rings would not seat, what are the chances of the chrome chipping off and causing other problems in the rest of the engine?

Thanks in advance.

Default Run away

Run away. Run far away.

At the very least, you'll need to remove the cylinders and change the rings. You won't know until then what kind of damage has been done. If you are lucky, maybe none.

This is understood. And the price has been adjusted based on an all new top end. What I am looking for is someone that has seen this before and can say if the chrome has let go or just failed to break in.

The cyls will be pulled before purchase for a look see............
