Default Edwards Air Force Base Dry Lake Fly-In

Since I haven't spotted anything about this on the site I thought I would post this link.

http://www.eaa.org/apps/galleries/gallery.aspx?ID=401

Normally an off limits area. The Air Force opened up the Dry Lake to a select 100 people to get to land on the Dry Lake. Over 2000 people put in for it and 100 were selected. I wasn't one of them but the link is to some photos from EAA Photo Gallery.

At least one RV made it there, photo 15.

Great pictures!!! Wonder if the fly-in will be a yearly thing and gradually enlarge? Curious if they did background checks or if the selected pilots was pure random?

Thanks for the link!

From Rosie: It was all done by lottery (100 aircraft), and that's my neighbor Greg Scates' yellow RV-6A pictured in the slideshow :-)

If anyone feels they missed out on the chance to land on a big dry lake, just fly over to El Mirage any day of the year (no lottery needed). I've been there many times with several different airplanes - it's pretty cool.

...RVs made it - and I was also selected...

My pictures on this thread...

I got some good shots of warbirds - with less people around compared to an airshow, it was much easier to get a clear shot of an entire plane...
