Rick, without quoting your entire post and taking up space here, I would like to interject that cockpit standardization applies not only to the yawn-inducing Cherokees, but nearly all certificated aircraft of all performance types. Hop into a Mach .92 Citation X, an 800,000lb Boeing, or a simple Beech Baron, and you're likely to easily identify all the major controls very quickly. While we as homebuilders have the wonderful ability to experiment to our hearts' content with cockpit layout, the research and development that has gone into many aircraft designs before us should be given some thought as to its logic and conclusions. Fly safe!
