Default RV-7 to challenge London to Capetown record

I'm sure many of you know about Steve Noujaim's plans to challenge the 70 year old record set by Alex Henshaw for London to Capetown and return in his RV-7.

He now looks set to depart early in the morning next Wednesday from Southend airport, planning to return there on Friday afternoon.

I'm sure you'll all join me in wishing Steve every success.

Default That record was broken last year...

...by a South African airline pilot in a retractable gear, wooden homebuilt. IIRC, he took around 18 hours aff the record. I'll try and find the video.

Here ya go:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiVSs...eature=related

Best,

Best,
Chalkie Stobbart is his name. He and Steve Noujaim are good friends.

Steve's site makes it fairly clear that he's after Chalkie's record... and in the event he does break it, am sure Taff (a few days / weeks behind?) will be after Steve's

But not sure we can mention Taff since he's not flying an RV

But Chalkie did it the wrong way round (i.e Capetown-London-Capetown).
I know it's just as significant an achievement, but not strictly Henshaw's record.
Either way, I wish him well.

As a side note, I think it's a great precedent for allowing homebuilts to fly night and IMC in Europe, which isn't currently allowed (I think Steve has a one-off exemption).
