Permatex Form-A-Gasket vs Permatex Anti-Seize

For items that attach to the engine like hose fittings (threaded plumbing fittings), bolts, plugs, etc. Which is the correct product as I see builders using both Permatex #2 Form-A-Gasket and/or Permatex Anti-Seize Lubricant.

Should one be used on things that could leak and the other on bolts, spark plugs, etc. What should be the rational for the use of one over the other?

Permatex Form-A-Gasket is decribed as slow-drying, non-hardening sealant designed for sealing cut gaskets and stamped parts. Allows for easy disassembly if required. Temperature range -65?F to 400?F (-54?C to 204?C); resists common shop fluids and fuels. Use where sealing is more important than adhesion. One post says this product is called for somewhere "per the plans".


Permatex Anti-seize Lubricant. One post says to use this product any place that you have dissimilar metals or that has high heat and will need to be removed on a regular basis. Anything that you may want to ever take apart again. On the airplane, maybe on some of the control tube bolts, tailwheel tube, inspection plates, stuff that has metal on metal but has lock washers to keep it together. It is decribed as a highly refined blend of aluminum, copper and graphite lubricants. Use during assembly to prevent galling, corrosion and seizing and to assure easier disassembly. Temperature range: -60?F to 1600?F (-51?Cto 871?C). Salt, corrosion and moisture resistant.

That's exactly right. Anti-seize on things you don't want to seize (exhaust bolts, slip joints, spark plugs,etc.) Form-A-gasket on things you don't want to leak (pipe threads, cover plates, etc.
