Default Sightseeing stops enroute Oshkosh

VAF members-

Circumstances have worked out so I am one state closer and can leave one day earlier for Oshkosh. So I am packing camping equipment and would like to do some sightseeing when the sights are close to the airfield or within courtesy car range.

Weather permitting, I will be departing Priest River, ID either the afternoon of July 20 or the morning of July 21.

I welcome additions or subtractions based on your inputs. From west to east are some of the stops I had in mind:

Kellogg & Wallace, ID
St. Ingatius, MT (to look at the Mission)
Seeley Lake, MT (has anyone been in to this USFS strip recently? notes say soft and muddy after rain)
Lewistown, MT
Sidney or Glendive, MT
Mandan or Hazen, ND Is Ft. Stevenson State Park within walking distance of the Garrison ND airstrip?
W. Fargo, ND?
Aitkin, MN
Hayward, WI (World Lumberjack Championship 7/23 -25)
Eagle River, WI area - many airstrips to choose from within 25 - 30 miles
Mt. Rushmore, SD (on Saturday, 24 July) with Rosie/Tuppergal

Thanks in advance,

LarryT

AV cup racers will depart Mitchell SD (MHE) on Sunday morning the 25th. And lots of things going on there the Saturday the 24th.

Still time to sign up to race.

Seeley Lake strip is in good shape(hasn't rained in a while). take the van into town get a giant steak at Lindy's or rent a boat if you want to play in the water. Watch your DA in the afternoon.

Polson(8S1) on the south end of Flathead Lake has a nifty museum called Miracle of America http://www.miracleofamericamuseum.org/index.html

Townsend(8U8) has cheap fuel, courtesy van, grassy area to pitch a tent and paved. Canyon Ferry(8U9)is a dirt strip but ok for RV's is 5 miles up the lake, <100yds to the lake or 100yds to the Pink Flamingo for huckle berry milkshakes and other food..here's a write up: http://blog.woodalls.com/2010/06/the...nsend-montana/

Instead of West Fargo, (D54), You should try Fargo (FAR) if you are during business hours. They have a nice museum right on the field, and I believe you can walk from the ramp to the museum. Better check on the details on getting back on the ramp, but I am sure it will be no problem.

It is a very low traffic controlled field, and is real easy to get in and out of.
