Default Mainspar bolts in the RV-6

Hi all,

About a week away from the end now, but stuck on the main spar bolts (the bigger NAS ones). I think they are NAS 1105 with the short thread and when I put on the nyloc nut, the thread is only just long enough to come out the end of the nut before the nut bottoms out on the shoulder of the bolt. Note -this is without installing the bolt in the main spar but with bolt in my hand, so this not a washers issue.

These are all standard Vans issue and will not give me 1.5 threads sticking beyond the nyloc nut.

Any ideas/comments?

Thanks

Sounds like you got the wrong bolts. I'd measure everything on the bolt with a digital caliper especially threaded length, put the nut on and take a pic to send to Van's. Then give them a call. Is it possible they included the wrong bolts? Maybe...

Measure the shank of the bolt in 1/16ths, not including the threaded part, does the drawing give you a bolt length..??

Or you can use a grip length gauge to measure the spar, splice plate thickness and compare that to the bolts you have.

You should ad a 1/16th to the length for the washer under the head..

Good luck..

Nick..
