Smile Oshkosh

We will be attending Air Venture, leaving T.P. McCampbell, (Corpus Christi Area,TX) on July 24. We normally make 2 stops in between. We would like to make the second stop somewhere around Missouri or Illinois and stay the afternoon and night. Continue to Oshkosh on Sunday July 25. Does anybody know of a fun place to stay, hotel at the airport or close by and interesting to visit?

Let us know,
Gus and Peggy, N996US

Its a little further but you could stay at KDLL Baraboo/ Wisconsin Dells and spend the night at the Indian Casino/hotel next door (if they have vacancies). Then its a short 100 mi hop to Oshkosh.

Default Iowa City

Gus,

An option might be Iowa City, (KIOW). Its about 200nm from there to Oshkosh. At the airport there is a really neat aviation theme hotel. Its called Alexis Park Inn & Suites. Its website is www.alexisparkinn.com. Their phone number is 888-925-3947. I believe they normally have a special for people on their way to Oshkosh. I don't know if this is out of the way or not for you.

Good Luck,

Default Kansas City/Lees Summit (KLXT)

May be a little bit out of your flight path...but a stop here in Lees Summit (KC area) has some advantages:

RV friendly...our EAA Chapter has three hangers. We can normally squeeze in a plane or two for an overnight at no charge for fellow EAA members.

Not to mention other RVs (several 3/4/6/7/8 and a project 10) with spare parts, tools, etc. should you have any maintenance needs.

Fuel prices are reasonable and staff is friendly.

Courtesy cars are available at no charge (for a couple of hours) and rental cars from Enterprise can be reserved and be waiting for you at the field. Taxi service is also available.

Hotels and restaurants are a short drive away (2-5 miles) and KC has lots of attractions, good food, music, etc. within a 30 minute drive.

Contact me via email if you decide to drop by and I'll try to coordinate a spot in the hangers.

Have a great trip,
Mike

We stayed there one year. Had a jacuzzi in our room. I thought the owners sold the hotel and bought one in Texas. Are the new owners continuing the aviation theme?

Default Oskosh

I have flown from the New Orleans area to OSH many time in the past, as I will this year. A good stop for fuel and lunch has always been Cape Girardeau, Mo. Just about my 1/2 way point. There is a restaurant on the field and fuel . Never stayed overnite, but I am sure there are nice places nearby. Bob.

Their website lists both hotels so I believe it still has the aviation theme.

Many thanks to all of you replying to my enquire. We'll plot the suggestions on the travel map and make a decision.

Cheers,

Default Branson, MO (KPLK)

Another option to consider: a direct flight from Corpus Christi to Osh will take you directly over Branson, MO...land at KPLK and take in the shows, lakes, caves, food, attractions, etc. See:
