Default stock van's cowl mods

So, have spent hours searching for pics of vans stock cowl, modified for BPE IO540 with horizontal induction. Really would like to get into this engine, but a bit scared of the fberglass work. A part of me wants to push the easy button with a vertical, but the cold air induction is enticing.

I've seen some great mods of the Sam James cowl - Deems, you're amazing!- but I'm hopeful that the mods to a stock cowl would be less involved.

Sounds like there are a lot of these engines out there, but not much luck on pictures. If any of you guys have done this, can I get some pointers?

Thanks!

Phil

Phil,
Very little fundamental difference in modifying a Vans cowl or a James cowl. The stock cowl is a honeycomb and thus may need core hard points here and there. I suppose you could argue it makes the stock cowl harder to modify, but I don't think it is a big deal.

Going with a horizontal manifold means using a snorkel from the left cooling intake, or using a forward facing scoop through the cowl. I assume you're thinking about an RV10, so you may want to contact Rod Bower regarding one of his scoops for the -10 cowl:

The obvious alternative is to build whatever you want:

thanks Dan, this is what I was looking for. Amazing how many permutations of a search you can do and not find what y ou want.

It hadn't been clear to me whether Rod had things worked out for the standard cowl - i'll check with him
