Default wire size question

What size wire should I use for the alternator to 35 amp cb connection? I am planning on using the 35 amp alt. supplied by Vans. I wired it with 10 gauge wire but think it might be too small. Also used 10 ga. for the alt cb to buss bar; is this adequate? I don't plan on installing a lot of high current drawing equipment but would like to double check this wire size before riveting on the skin that would render it inaccessible.

Vans calls out for a #8 on their diagram on page 5-18 of the RV-7 manual. Their drawing shows the use of a 35 amp alternator and #8 size wire.

What you might consider is using 4AWG wire in your charging circuit. That way, if you or a new owner upgraded to a larger alternator or to install higher current drawing equipment, you'd be okay. Most of Electric Bob's drawings show 4AWG in this circuit. You can get by with smaller given your description, but I think I'd stay to no smaller than 8AWG. YMMV.
