Default Question - what is the generic name for these:

Greetings,

I'm looking (for a non aircraft use) for fittings like these types we use on the fuel pump, and am wondering if there is a generally accepted name for them. Specifically, the machine thread/O-ring type of fitting (not pipe thread). This is for a hydraulic system application.

Thanks in advance!

Default Found it!

Thanks for the try! I found it: ORB, for O-Ring Boss.

Default ORB fittings

All of the hydraulic hose/fittings companies such as Parker and Aeroquip Industrial Hydraulics lines will have these kind of fittings. They are indeed called ORB for O-Ring Boss and are defined by SAE standard J1926-1, -2 and -3. The ports and studs are straight thread UNF threads. The o-rings and o-ring recesses are also defined by the standard. There is also a metric version of these defined by ISO6149, but I doubt you're looking for these.

If you need to make the female port there are form tools available.

Parker's catalog 4300 has a good General Technical section for a wide variety of ports and end fittings including thread sizes. Unfortunately I was unable to get a link that worked.

Your local hydraulics dealer should be able to help with parts and catalogs.

Default

Different manufacturers use a variety of similar names to ident a bunch of not-so-similar items. I'd just be descriptive ("I want a straight SAE and 37 degree flare"), or I'd do my own catalog research and give him a part number.
