Flying to Redbull air races Detriot River?
Anyone planning on flying in to view this weeks Redbull air races? Redbull was trying to roll out a "starflight" package and apparently it didnt sell well. So, you are now able to fly into Windsor Ontario (base airport for Redbull) at very little cost. You can watch the fun right from the airport, view on one of the Jumbotrons, watch the action and the planes come and go and see the awards ceremony all for very little money. $20 ticket one day, $30 for sat and sunday where you can actually meet the pilots, walk the pits etc. They will also have some type of transportation to the river front too if that is your wish. Great event if you have never seen it before. Customs is on site in Windsor, just notify them properly in advance. They have set up for an expected 250 planes. Hope there are lots of RVS
If anyone needs more info just drop me a line.

I talked to someone at CYQG and was told I could fly in but have to make a reservation for ramp space and that it would be $40 for parking . I'll be watching the weather but would like to make it one of the days .

No fees
Not sure who you talked to. It's volunteers and no landing fees. They are offering a special package including pit passes etc for very cheap but no landing fees and are working on free or inexpensive shuttles to the river.

Hi Rick ,
I got the following response to a query I made a few days ago . The one day Starflight package is only on Sunday and ,at a total of $183.80 for me and my girlfriend, is quite a bit more than parking and general admission tickets . I'm going to have to check into this because the Redbull provided info says that their way is the ONLY way to get landing permission at YQG . I'm not so sure about this....I also wanted the option of going an Saturday so the Starflight package doesn't appeal to me.

Race info.
You are correct, there is "likely" a charge of $40 to park and overnight fee of $15. Its a little disorganized, they dont really know who is going to charge it...funny, they might mail you a bill in a few weeks! Wierd but whatever. It appears the starflight program wasnt a big seller so they are doing their best to fix that and get lots of planes to come in. They are offering for $20 one day passes that get you grand strands, watch all the planes, tour the hangars, meet and greet several of the race pilots at the airport, a tour etc. You will be greeted by Redbull girls, very nice. And a gift bag that includes everything from a ball cap to a metal, very nice kneeboard, book, etc etc. It is easily worth the $20.
They had planned on 250 aircraft and might only have 75 as the weather is marginal and they didnt promote it early enough. I would strongly suggest anyone around consider it if the weather is good. It is a pretty great show and its something to see.
