Question Fresh air inlet screens

I saw examples of nicely done fresh air inlet screens. Is it necessary? If yes could you please post a picture or a suggestion how to make it in elegant way?

Screens I saw were inside here

I suppose it isn't "necessary," but a darn good idea, IMHO. I recall many years ago being nearly scared out of my skin when wasps began flying in close formation to ME while I was several thousand feet AGL. I am allergic to wasp stings! I have done about all possible to keep them out of my airframe. (Yeah, I know it isn't totally possible.)

My screens were very simple; aluminum window screen cut to size and formed around the rear of the inlet and the tubes pushed over them and secured to hold everything in place. Has worked so far!

BTW, hope to see you at OSH!

I used the same technique as Bob but used Stainless Steel screening. I wasn't sure how long the normal Alu screening would hold up since I have noticed on the house that after about 5 years (salty air) that the wires were a very corroded.
YMMV

Same as Bob and for the same reason.

I used the screen from the back door after Torque the wonder dog ran through it. Anyone want a bulldog?

Default I used stainless steel screen...

...from the aviation isle at the food store. Food strainer / colander is how the item was mislabeled, but I knew it for what it was.

One strainer provided enough material for both vents plus the fuel vents. I attached the screen material to the output port of the vent and slid the SCAT hose over that and hose clamped it all together. Works fine.

Default Grocery Store

I used stainless steel wool scrub pads from Super 1 food. They work great.

You are lucky indeed. I got stung by a hornet that came in through the vent while I was a student pilot. Mine will have screens of some sort. Unfortunately there is no shortage of them around here. Several pilots on my field have had the same experience.

I like the colander... er, food strainer... er, intake screen idea. If you get the pointy bottom it even has a nice aerodynamic contour!

Thumbs up Vent screen

I cut mine out of a drain screen and clamped it between the black hose and the mount.
