Default In cowling air induction

I'm trying to fit a IO-320 into an RV-3A model. This same RV had a IO-360 EXP with induction air drawn from the rear engine baffle to the trottle body at the rear or the sump. I have two problems, if I install the same setup: switching the sump to one that mounts a horizontal rear draft injector body and drawing air from the rear baffle...I don't know the lay out of the previous installation for drawing air from the baffle.
Any advice would be just peachie.

Hi Dave...

I am not 100% sure of what you are trying to achieve... however, see Randy Lervold Link for some issues of RV-3s v IO-320 engines. In short the cowlings are not large enough to contain all engine induction arrangements, and might need to be reworked, even to the extent of using an RV-4 one (as Randy did).

It might be worth including RV-3 in the thread title, and/or putting it in the RV-3 section - the number of RV-3 experts is small, and anything to draw their attention may help.

I'd appreciate any updates, since we are building an RV-3, and will need to configure and fit an IO-320 engine

Default Re: Inducton air

Hi Andy. Thank's for the advice and yes, I have been to Randy's web page. The previous induction system in this particular 3, as I recently learned, was similar to the Piper Comanche... drawing induction air from the right rear cylinder baffle and allowing a clean air scoop free bottom cowling. So it can be done with out modifing the bottom cowl!
I talked to a Mustang II owner recently who installed a Piper Comanche injected 320 engine in his plane with the Piper (off the rear baffle) induction setup, evidently with no problems. He included a flight journal of a flight to Alaska!
I'll post this for the RV-3 group, as well.
Dave
