Default First RV-10 entered in a race and....

...Top time of day!!

Man, this -10 is fast. I ran 29.2" and slightly less than 2700 revs for 45 minutes and some seconds...blew away an RV-8A,-6, -7 and Todd's LS 1 Chevy powered -10.

The Dynon showed 210-214 TAS for the entire 5 leg race and at times, 240 MPH GS....all this despite having to circle down through a hole to VFR below...a minute and a half down the drain.

CHT's stayed at 380 and oil went from its usual 190 to 202 and stabilized there. It's an Aerosport IO-540, basically stock with a Lightspeed ignition on the left.

Lee Logan will publish final results a little later,

Best,

Wow! Small world....do you know Tom, Terry and the guys who built her? This airplane is hands-off dead-on after a little rudder trim tweaking and aileron rigging to specs. Build 'em straight, rigged dead-on and man, they'll run!

Best,

The RV-10's went 1-2 in quickest to complete the course.

Man, talk about mixed feelings. Chevy ... Van's. Oh, wait, the Chevy was a Van's.

Congrats, Pierre.

Default Well maybe not the first RV-10 to enter a race

In 2006 Debbie Dewey & James Erskine flew her RV-10 in the 2006 AirVenture Cup race in the Sport FX Class. It was a head wind race. This RV-10 averaged 203.31 mph. That year Jon Ross and John Huft got just over 210 mph in their SUPER FAST RV-8s. SARL (www.sportairrace.org) has created a new RV-Gold Class this year that accepts RV-10s with the 540s and other RVs with up to the 390s.

Nope, never met those guys. But I'm new to this game. Sounds like they do good work, congrats to you.

Default Montana RV-10

I met Tom and talked to one of the other builders. I sent Pierre a PM with a pic of his bird on the beach at Flathead Lake two springs ago. I flew in to the beach party as a student pilot with my instructor and this yellow plane makes a high speed low pass over the landing area. I'd never heard of an RV, certainly not an RV-10 but I was impressed. Now I'm building one. I went and looked at Pierre's plane a year ago or so as I was thinking about building.

I have been to Flathead Lake a few times, but didn't know that you could land a plane on one of the beaches. Or maybe there's another way that an RV-10 can be "on the beach"...just curious!
